Whether you are a windsurfer chasing the perfect flat-water session, a sailor planning a passage, or simply someone who loves the water, understanding how tides work is one of the most valuable skills you can have in your toolkit.

Join the All Winds Adventures community for an online deep-dive into the world of tides.

The Plan: Mastering Tides

We are going to take a journey from the very basics—perfect for those who have never looked at a tide table before—all the way up to some of the tidal knowledge required at a Yachtmaster level.

We will cover: Tides, Streams, and Tables

  • The Theory: What tides actually are (vertical vs. horizontal movement) and how they are created.
  • The Cycles: Understanding Springs and Neaps.
  • The Tools: How to read and interpret tide tables correctly.
  • The Types: Different types of tides are found around the world.
  • Tidal Streams: How to find information on currents, how to use them to your advantage, and—crucially—how to recognise when they are dangerous.

 A Little “Heads Up”

Let’s be honest: Tides can be a dry topic! There is a fair bit of theory to get through, and by the end, we will be getting into some advanced concepts that might feel a bit heavy.

However, I don’t want this to be a monologue. You are heavily encouraged to:

  • Interrupt and ask questions at any point.
  • Join the discussion—if you have a tidal story (good or bad!), we want to hear it.
  • Stick with us—even if the advanced stuff flies over your head, the basics at the start will be a game-changer for your time on the water.

Whether you’re looking to keep yourself safe, improve your passage planning, or just understand why the water disappears at certain times of the day, this session is for you.

How to Join:

Please RSVP to get the Google Meet link. Grab a drink, get comfortable, and let’s decode the ocean’s rhythm together.

What to bring:

An open mind and your best tidal questions!
