Whether you are planning a week-long Mediterranean charter or preparing for coastal offshore passages, mastering passage planning sailing theory will keep your trips safe, relaxed, and enjoyable. In this live online workshop, we look at how to construct dynamic passage plans, evaluate pilotage data, and manage route options so you can eliminate “destination disease” for good.
What We Will Cover
- The “Option Tree” Approach: Why fixed daily destinations create dangerous pressure on the skipper, and how to build flexible Plan A, B, and C routes before you weigh anchor.
- Reading the Water & Weather: Combining pilot books, charts, and digital forecast overlays to identify wind gates, tidal windows, and lee shores along your route.
- Safe Abort Points & Safe Havens: Establishing clear, predetermined decision points along a passage before departing, so everyone knows when and where to tuck in if conditions change.
- Digital Tools in Practice: How to practically use Navionics, weather routing apps (like Windy), and local harbour guides together without getting overwhelmed by screens.
- Crew Management & Communication: Managing crew expectations on board so everyone stays relaxed, informed, and confident when the weather dictates a change of direction.

Language: The event is run in English. However, if you are a native German speaker and worried about missing technical nuances, don’t be. I speak German and can easily translate basic concepts if necessary.
